Dos and Don’ts of Getting Published Part Two )O(

My Mom’s pot of nasturtiums!

Merry meet all,

Today’s post is about more advice on getting your writing onto bookshelves in major retail stores across the country. Don’t we all wish it was so easy? I do.

The road to success in publication is hard. It was never intended to be easy. There is no such thing as overnight success. If this is the path that you -and me, want, then plan to be working very hard at it. Very hard. Grab a coffee and settle in. It is daunting and may seem impossible, but millions of other more established writers had to start somewhere, right? Right.

I just signed up for the Autocrit Novel90 Writing Challenge! A new horror novel idea is swimming like a (imagine scary fish) in your head. It won’t leave me alone. That is how I know that is what I should write. I have to write a novel in 90 days. I am up for thchallenge! This is one great way to get that novel written, by signing up for these challenges. The challenge forces you to write. I really want to write my new novel so this ensures it will be done!

  • Do not use AI to help you write your novel or screenplay. Ever. Nope. Nil. Don’t do it. AI is a flashy siren song, sure, but these days, publishers, editors and literay agents can test your writing upon submission and automatically reject your submission/s. It won’t even get a chance, not even a tiny chance. If you want, you can even test your own writing for AI detection prior to submission. So you do still have to write it and edit it YOURSELF.
  • Instead, do this. Once you have written your draft and taken some time from it, then looked at it with fresh eyes ( and that is all highly recommended, btw), enlist a trusted team of beta readers to help you where you may have overlooked theme, dialogue, plot or setting issues that need revision. I would never send out my writing without asking for a second or even third set of eyes on it. Beta read for them too. This is what I mean by building a support network of fellow writers. You can rally for each other when the going gets hard. And it will. But don’t give up!
  • Branding. Build a brand for yourself. First, decide which genre you love to write in. Look at which authors you love to read, which movies you most love to watch or your favorite podcasts. Do they all have something in common? Do you like westerns with a smidge of sci-fi? Do you prefer gritty grim dark? Or do police procedurals, mysteries or thrillers catch your eye? My brand is Conjuror of Gothic Horror. Publishers, editors and readers all know what to expect from me. I love gothic stories and I love to read them. I love the movies The Woman in Black, The Conjuring, Alien, the Grimm series, the Stranger Things series, Practical Magic and my favourite all time podcast is Lights Out Podcast. Now you get an idea of the genre I write in and enjoy. That’s an example of branding.
  • Read what other authors have written. I have an unquenchable thirst for the written word. I devoured Necrotek by Jonathan Maberry, The Relic by Tim Lebbon, My Heart is a Chainsaw by Stephen Graham Jones, and countless other books. If you want to be a writer, read. Read in your chosen genre so you can see how other authors have done it, and read everything you can. Read anything you can get your mitts on.
  • Find and read or subscribe to magazines for writers such as Writers Digest. Take the courses they offer. I’ve been reading Writers Digest magazine since I could stand. I love their magazines. I get a new issue every time it comes out. I also read Rue Morgue, magazines about the paranormal. I have about fifty magazines on the paranormal. I read, read, read. It has helped improve my writing a thousand times over.
  • Take writing courses or join a mentorship. Participate in writing conferences or conventions. Just don’t expect to automatically score a lit agent on a novel at the convention asap. But those writing programs and conventions are a great way to meet people, meet professionals in the industry and learn so much more. Keep an open mind, leave your writing – and ego – at home and enjoy the experience. Do bring a blank journal if you wish and scribble in notes, names or maybe any inspirations you dream up. Some courses offer monthly payment options if money is tight. You can learn a lot from those opportunities.
  • Be patient. Develop a thick skin for rejection letters and have patience. Nothing in publishing is instant. It takes time to be able to be good enough to have your writing published and it takes even longer from book contract to actual publication. Be grateful for what you do get and be nice to fellow authors and editors. Learn from the professionals. Rejections are inevitable. It just means that your writing was not right for that market. I get them too. I keep sending out my writing. Eventually with effort and luck, you can find the right markets for your stories too.
  • This next tip ties in with what I was saying above. If you choose the paranormal- this is just an example, learn everything you can about it. I have learned all about the different famous hauntings in the world, read lots of magazines, and listened to a ton of podcasts on that subject. It is as deep as it is wide.
  • The best tip I can give you is: Don’t Quit. You are not doing yourself a favor. If you quit, you will never know if you could have been your best self. You will be replaced by thousands of other writers who will be more than happy to take your place. This field suffers no fools. If you quit, you will never get that contract. So sit your butt in the chair and type. No one sees you writing, no one sees you editing except for Fido your cat, no one sees you rip that rejection letter to shreds. I know. It is hard work and there will be days when you will want to quit, but DON’T! The way ahead is hard and paved with very litte reward, especially at first when you get started. You need to be deeply dedicated to your craft. Like I said earlier, agents and publishers get tons of submissions all the time. Very few succeed in the ways we all dream about. But I can tell you if you quit, you will never know what you are capable of achieving. Look at me, a teacher once told my mother I would never be able to read. Flash forward to the future. Here I am, with a publishing contract, about to have my novella republished, written a thousand + blog posts, and had lots of short stories, poems and nonfiction published. It can be done!
    • YOu just have to put in the effort. Believe in yourself! Perseverance is more important than talent!

Blessed Be, Spiderwitch )O(

StokerCon 2025

Merry meet all,

I am more settled into my boyfriend’s apartment. It was a lot of effort to sort through all the books but I succeeded. I had to accomplish the organizing of the books because I am attending StokerCon virtually in a few days. I can feel my best now. I am really looking forward to StokerCon.

‘Welcome to StokerCon 2025, the premiere horror literary convention presented by the Horror Writers Association. This year the convention is being hosted by the city of Stamford, Connecticut, at the Hilton Stamford Hotel and Executive Center–and online for all those unable to attend in-person. Starting virtually at 3 P.M. Eastern time on June 12 and running until 3 P.M. Eastern Time on June 15, 2025, virtual StokerCon will offer a wealth of new and encore on-demand programming, author readings, academic presentations, exhibitor booths, a special online screening of the Final Frame Film Competition–and live streamed panels direct from Stamford! Our guests of honor this year include: Scott Edelman, Paula Guran, Adam Nevill, Joyce Carol Oates, Gaby Triana, and Tim Waggoner. For more information, check out the StokerCon 2025 website.  StokerCon® has been a long celebrated convention for authors of the horror genre. It is an all-inclusive event where writers of all of the many subgenres the horror world may convene to share ideas, pitch their new projects, and revel in their weirdness. The past StokerCon conventions have always been joyous occasions. And we look forward to seeing familiar faces and new at virtual StokerCon 2025 convention. Please note that virtual StokerCon provides all-new and encore on-demand panels from previous StokerCons available as soon as the convention opens in the Expo Hall. Approximately 40 panels will be live-streamed from Stamford, and these will appear in the Sessions area approximately 15 minutes before they begin. These panels, which appear on the Schedule here are the only ones that will be live-streamed. Any panels listed in the Sched app but not listed here will not be broadcast.’

How can you pass that up? I am so excited. I plan to attend as many panel discussions as possible. The panel discussions sound just fascinating. I will be there with a coffee and a notebook. These discussions are amazing  and meant to insire you to write! I can’t write in all the panel discussions here but they are the biggest reason why I sign up. I also enjoy the Final Frame Short Film Competition and the Bram Stoker awards. I have already registered and signed up. I look forward to finding friends in the chat.

Stokercon is a great place to network with like minded fans of horror in all its glory.

I enjoyed witchy mischief last night. I burned charcoal in my huge cauldron. I burned charcoal in the cauldron at the midnight hour. An open fire is illegal but witches bend the rules. Or we just would not be Witches. Now I have ash for my incense. I am happy about that.

My altar is tucked in under the computer desk. It is a bit inconvenient but I don’t have as much space as I used to have.  So I have to think very carefully about how I will store everything.

The next turn in the Wheel of the Year is Litha, or the Summer Solstice. I shall post more about that soon. I wish you all a magickal, exciting summer!

I attended the virtual StokerCon convention. I had a great time. I really recommend it to everyone. I enjoyed the panel discussions. It was better than the other Stokercon conventions. Also they had a moderator for the chat this time. I felt totally ignored and the other people attending virtually felt ignored too. This time there was a moederator for the chat. I am happy about that.

Blessed be Spiderwitch

Book Launch Success )O(

Greetings darklings:

Today I want to post about my book launch. So grab a cup of coffee or tea and let’s dive right in!

I rehearsed the section I wanted to read aloud over and over. I found a video on YouTube that helped me to do a much better reading. The effort paid off. The weather was great. I do believe the gods wanted me to have the book launch because the temperature was so warm it felt like spring.

I wore my spider web lace dress with my black overdress, my spider web lace shawl and black lace gloves. I wore a pair of black boots, leggings and lots of jewelry, including a spider choker. I polished the spider choker the day before. I did my makeup really nice. I felt great. I arrived at the cafe with my man and my Mom. We found a table to sit at and enjoyed a coffee. I was so nervous. The cafe bustled with people.

Eventually the music was turned off. I arranged the copies of my book on the table. I also set up two spider figurines with the books. The owner of the cafe introduced me and gave the audience my bio. Then it was time for me to do the reading. Yes I totally broke out in a sweat and my face was several shades of fire engine red. But to my own shock, I did it! I even enjoyed it.

The audience was so quiet. That made me more nervous. I threw myself into it. It was over before I knew it. Then it was time for the question and answer period followed by the book signing. I answered their questions and signed books. I had hoped that more friends would show up for the launch. However my friends did come which made the night amazing. I felt so good answering their questions and signing the book copies for them. I felt like all that hard work paid off. If I got to this point, dear readers, then you can too. I wish I could have signed and sold more copies but that does not have to be the last launch for this book I do. I signed the six copies ahead of time that we left at Trident. I hope those sell too.

After that, I packed up my spiders and my spidery books. We all chatted with each other for a while and then left. I was treated to a nice dinner. I was so tired afterwards. A rushing train would not have woken me. I thoroughly enjoyed myself. I was so tired that I even got emotional.

That’s because……

I am so grateful for all the support I received from my online friends and my local friends, from everyone. The amount of support that I was shown has blown my mind. I could not have done it without that support. I never suspected and I do believe that I shall let them know how much I appreciate it. Wow. Thank you to everyone.

We dropped my Mom off at home. Then it was time for home and a more casual outfit. I barely even remember falling asleep. I was so tired after all the anticipation.

The book launch was a smashing success. I am blown away by all the kind support I received. I hope to host another book launch in the future and put myself through all that torture- kidding!, all over again.

Blessed Be, Spiderwitch

Winter Crafts )O(

Merry meet all,

My heart goes out to those who are caught in the crosshairs of the Los Angeles inferno. I know a few people there and I hope they are safe.

The Wheel of the year spins again. The next Sabbat is Imbolc, the first of the three spring Sabbats. I can’t wait for spring and I shall soon be poring over seed catalogues. I still turn my compost tumbler. I want to have compost to spread on my garden in the spring. I miss my garden.

The skies here still darken early. Spring is not that far away. I am counting down the days till spring. I have rescheduled the book launch at Trident Cafe for my debut novel The Cult of the Spider People: Bone Chillers #1. I am excited. This time, I will order my own copies to have enough books for the launch. I am very happy to have a launch! I will bring a cloth for the table, and some props and of course, my copies. I have to market and promote the event and practice reading for it. I hate doing public readings. I am sure I can practice with Penny, my cat.

I can’t wait to get my sweater I ordered in the mail. The sweatshirt has the cover art of my book on the front. I can’t wait to wear it. It is in transit right now.

The sweatshirt showing the cover art of my book

I want to sew a grey chemise type dress. The grey chemise I have is not ankle length. It will be a simple pattern. Besides, I am still worn out from sewing the blue Arwen dress. I love wearing the grey Tauriel dress. It feels so feminine. But it is not ankle length. The fabric is grey. I don’t want to go to the work of dyeing fabric again. I want to work in elastic at the neckline and a long ribbon that I will tie in a bow at the centre neckline. I think it will look nice. I had enough blue velvet remaining to make a shawl. I cut the shawl in a triangle pattern and hemmed the edges. I want to sew a triquetra patch on to the back of the shawl.

I also plan to sew a lovely scary doll for my friend, Onyx. I have all the supplies. I love doing crafts. It keeps me sane and then I forget all about the craziness the world is going through. I love to create something beautiful. Tomorrow I am painting a block of wood. Im sanding it first, filling in the cracks and holes and then painting it green. I want to set hooks into it and use it as a herb dryer. The herbs will hang from the hooks. I just need to decide where to position it in my apartment. Idon’t have much wall space. I am sure I will find a spot. I was thinking of setting it beneath the window but above my altar.

The big big BIG project I am inspired to do after all that is to paint my dresser. Yeah I have gone crazy lol. I do want to paint it after I was inspired by something I saw on Facebook. I thought, I have to try that! I hate the way the dresser looks right now. I plan to change that. I want to paint it green. I need the right green shade. I am sure the staff at the paint store will help me select the right shade. I have to clean the entire dresser, scrub it clean with Murphys oil, sand it, prime it and then paint it. Only if I can find the best shade. I ordered floral rub on transfers to adhere to the dresser once all the hard work is done. I want to buy new dresser pull knobs too. I swear by the witchy power vested in me, the dresser will be transformed! I will treat the thirsty wood of the dressers to a coating in hemp oil. That will make the dresser nice too. But oh my gosh the work and how to paint it with a cat around! I will have to get a few paint drop cloths and arrange them around the dresser. One under the dresser to protect the floor and a few covering and protecting everything else. It will be a lot of work but I hate seeing that orange dresser- makes me want to scream! This is what I have in mind for the end result:

It can and will be done. I have researched this and watched a few videos on YouTube of other people transforming furniture. This will call for a lot of elbow grease but I am up for the challenge. That is for the month of February. I will not make the mistake of painting the sides of the dresser drawers like I did with that desk. Oh no, I will make all new mistakes! lol.

Blessings, Spiderwitch

My author interview )O(

Merry meet all,

Today’s post focuses on an author interview I am part of. I hope you enjoy reading the interview.

Interview With Author Heddy Johannesen

Q: If you could have a fantasy pet, what would you have and why?
A: A black shiny raven that talks. I already have a cat. The raven would be my eyes and ears
to the world, and report back to me!

Q: What type of music best describes your writing?
A: I listen to scary music to get into the mindset. When I wrote Cult of the Spider People,
listening to the Alien soundtrack helped me write the dark morbid parts of the story. I
also listen to Heilung, Viking music which is a part of my ancestry.

Q: Tell us about your writing office/space and why it’s special to you.
A: My writing space is in my small bedroom in my small apartment. Cozy, well lit, with tons of
books and files, writing supplies, cat hair. I feel like I can be my most creative self in my
little nook. It’s special because it is full of cool knickknacks like I just went shopping at
Hogwarts. It feels comfortable. I brought nature indoors. Leaves, vines, flowers, crystal balls,
candles, cauldrons.

Q: What is your favorite piece of visual art that has inspired a story or two?
A: I like skull art. I really like skulls. I have skulls on dishes, journals, jewelry. I think they
are like a representation of someone’s life, used to be in a shell of a living human body.
Skulls are beautiful and yet dark, because they are a part of death and yet if clean, intact,
like they go on after death.

Q: If you didn’t write full-time what would your day job be? Is writing a hobby for you?
A: I love to write. I love to read. I am studying to be a professional herbalist. I would be
holed up drinking coffee, poring over ancient herbals and making tinctures and syrups.
Writing is not a hobby. I love to write but I have to find a way to support myself so I can
write.

Q: What is your writing schedule and how many words do you write in a sitting?
A: I write on my blog. I write about a few thousand words in a sitting. It depends on the
project. I like to write flash fiction, stories. I am also writing a ghost nonfiction book.

Q: How do you celebrate publishing a new story?
A: I pet my cat, maybe have some wine, treat myself to something nice.

Q: How do you balance your outside life with your writing life?
A: I try to blend both. I love to visit cemeteries. I take photos in cemeteries for the HWA
newsletter. I do find it challenging sometimes to work on my horror writing and my
herbalism course studies. But I do the best I can. Cemeteries inspire me too. Sometimes I
write there in a cemetery.

Q: Write your eulogy in three sentences.
A: Here lies a dead poet. Her horror stories live on beyond the grave. She wished to be buried
with her books and pens to pen more morbid novels and short stories in her coffin.

Q: What project are you most proud of completing?
A: I believe that I am most proud of completing Cult of the Spider People. It was not like
any story I have ever written before. It was extremely challenging. I grew as a writer. I
will not ever be the same. It brought me out of my comfort zone. I learned so much, had
to improve my writing, realize when a manuscript is and is not ready to be submitted and
overcome a nasty scam editor. Everything was thrown at me but I am happy that I sailed
past those conflicts. I am proud that my short story, The Grimm Pumpkin, was published
four times. I completed a small book of poetry and I am happy about my novella, Cult of
the Spider People.

Q: Do you have any projects you would like to tell your readers about?
A: I have had a few flash fiction stories published in anthologies by Wicked Shadow Press. I
have a few pieces published in the Horror Zine.

Q: Who is your favorite character from any of your stories and why? If you had to choose a
popular author to continue writing this character in another book who would you choose
and why?
A: I would say that Piper Marshall, the main character from Cult of the Spider People is a
character I would continue to write in another book. She is not like me at all. She is great
but impatient and stubborn and young and brave. She was a lot of fun to write. She loves
and cares about those closest to her. She would make a huge sacrifice for someone she
cares about and goes through all these dangerous experiences in the novella.

Q: Where can your readers find you on social media?
A: I am on Facebook and Twitter. My cat is on Instagram at #pennygingercat. I can be found on
Twitter at magicka66, on Facebook where I have a page – the Paranormal Quill. I also
have a blog titled The Paranormal Quill.

Bio: My fiction has appeared in The Horror Zine, Yule Cat Codex, Halloweenthology: Trick or Treat, Polar Borealis, Wax and Wane: A Gathering of Witchy Tales, Ghosts, Spirits and Spectres Volume 2, Handbook of the Dead, Samhain Secrets, One Night in Salem, Feminine Macabre, Paranormal Chronicles and Untimely Frost: Poetry Unthawed. I’m a member of the Horror Writers Association and co-chair of the Horror Writers Association chapter for Atlantic Canada. I’ve attended the virtual Horror Writers Association Annual Convention StokerCon, in 2021, 2022 and 2023. I participated in the online From Idea to Finished First Draft Masterclass with Jonathan Maberry in June 2023, the Three Prime Rules of Writing Horror Webinar with Mort Castle in October 2020 and a mentorship with Tim Waggoner. I graduated from a Copy-Editing Certification Training at Writer’s Digest in July 2020 and a Bachelor of Arts degree. I’m a writer with a fascination for the paranormal.

Paranormal Investigation at spooky Hotel

Merry meet all,

Now we are past the mind blowing fun activities of October 31st, it’s time to turn our attention to other equally as fun matters. The sun is shining this morning. A chill lingers in the air. Colourful leaves are strewn over the sidewalks, lawns, gardens. It’s like Mother Nature took a paintbrush to the trees. I took that photo yesterday when I was on the nature trail. I know, the beauty of the trail stuns me too.

The energy of autumn is still present. I am excited to share another Canadian paranormal story with you, dear readers. So grab a mocha, get comfy and enjoy!

Paranormal investigators check out old hotel in southeastern B.C.

VANCOUVER –

Paranormal investigators were at a hotel in southeastern B.C. over the weekend, checking for evidence of activity.

The group from True North Paranormal arrived at the Three Valley Gap Lake Chateau and Heritage Ghost Town in Revelstoke Friday.

Hosts of the show, from Thunder Boyz Productions, Inc., planned to make stops in the ghost town including at the historic Hotel Bellevue and the Train Roundhouse.

According to those behind the production, which airs on Amazon Prime and Paraflix, both buildings “have a huge history of paranormal activity.”

The hosts said they felt something almost as soon as they entered the hotel, which was built in 1898 in Sicamous, but has since been moved to the Three Valley Gap Ghost Town and restored.

“As soon as I entered, I had a sense of going upstairs and what I believe I’m feeling is the feelings of a lady that spent a lot of time here. She didn’t like to come upstairs,” host Karina Kozuska told CTV News.

But those behind the show say it’ll be up to those who watch the episode to decide what they think.

“We want the viewers to make up their own mind as to what we found – whether they believe it’s haunted or not,” host Jon Kozuska said.

“We’ll tell you we found stuff we can’t explain, but it’s up to you to decide.”

The husband-wife team is based in Kamloops, and say Canada is a “hot-bed” of paranormal activity. Through the show, the Kozuskas investigate reports at abandoned gold rush towns, old theatres and more.

Previous episodes include the Powerhouse and Vernon Towne theatres in Vernon, B.C., and the Kamloops Indian Residential School. They’ve also filmed in the Falkland Museum and Heritage Park, Sagebrush Theatre, city hall in Sandon, Caetani Centre and other spots in B.C.

Witches Herbs

Merry meet all,

I just finished reading the book titled The Witching Herbs by Harold Roth. This wonderful book is meant for anyone who aspires to grow the bane herbs, or poisonous herbs in their gardens. Don’t grow any bane plants until you read this book. It will save your life. You really need to understand on a very sound and deep level how to work with the plants and not kill yourself or someone else in the process. I don’t want anyone growing any mandrakes, belladonna or nightshade without reading this book. I can’t emphasize enough how crucial this book is to your health and safety.

I am growing mandrake from seed! It is stored up high where it gets the fresh air and sunlight from the window. But it is up high where my cat can’t reach it. That is for her safety. Mandrake is a toxic plant and I will never let anything harm her- and me, as well. I want the mandrake for the root and I have just the spot to plant it. I have to wait till it is big enough to defend itself from slugs. Then it gets planted out. I almost grew wolfsbane. Wolfsbane is a plant that is exceedingly toxic. It goes by a few names such as wolfsbane, aconite, aconite – it’s botanical name and monkshood. Yet people grow it in their gardens! If you get that plant on your skin and touch your face, you can die right on the spot. The juices of the lovely but toxic plant can’t get into your bloodstream. I pitched the seedling container that had the wolfsbane seeds in it to the compost bin. There is too much risk in growing it. Children, animals and people all frequent the garden. No way would I risk harming them. This is why it is so vital to read that book.

I harvested the mugwort in my garden. The mugworts grew six feet high! I’m drying the leaves and stalks indoors. The leaves look so pretty on the branches as they slowly dry to a crisp. When it is ready, I will store the leaves in jars. I can’t wait. I bought a new set of jars just for that purpose. I am also drying chamomile. I will store the chamomile in jars too. I don’t crumble the leaves and flowers before I store them. They remain potent for a longer time when you do it that way. Just before you are about to use them, then you crumble the herbs. I plan to store more herbs this fall. I am just waiting to harvest them just before the frost.

Mugwort is a VERY invasive plant. I uprooted the strong healthy roots of the mugwort patch and put the mugwort into a planter. It will choke out anything else that grows nearby. Mugwort is best grown when it is contained. I hope the mugwort grows well in a container. The planter pot is very very deep. The roots were quite large so I needed a container that could accommodate the big roots. I have never seen such strong healthy roots such as the mugwort roots in my life. I have another plant I at first believed to be a poppy but now I think it is another mugwort. I don’t recall planting mugwort there but more mugwort is OK with me!

Today I cut off all the browned pea vines from 2 pots I was growing them in. I snipped away any remaining stems and tossed it all in the compost. I stirred the soil in the planters and added Gaia Green Organics fertilizer! This fertilizer is a miracle worker in your garden. It’s improved my plants and soil! My comfrey came back when I added it to the soil! I thought my comfrey died! It’s been given a second chance. I planted the sad looking onion seed sets that looked all wilted at the back of the garden into the plant pot. I added the fertilizer. The peas also fixed nitrogen into the soil. The onions might grow better now that they are exposed to more sunlight and are receiving more nutrients! I sure hope so. I am growing potatoes and my shallots grow better near the potatoes. I planted beans and chard in the second planter. I also fed them fertilizer and water in the pots. I was busy in my garden. I also just planted a few turnip seeds in another planter where I have potatoes growing. By the time I harvest the potatoes the turnips will really get going if the bugs keep off.

I harvested 4 pickling cucumbers so far! My tomatoes are growing too. I trimmed the bottom leaves that touch the ground to avoid the risk of disease. I also fertilized each tomato plant. Now they are growing yellow flowers and tomatoes! Many of my other herbs and flowers are growing beautifully! That is a post for another time. The bees keep visiting the lemon balm, cucumbers, and astilbe, clover and dandelions to pollinate. The lemon balm patch in my garden is huge. It is why everything else in my garden is growing well. Ok by me.

Blessings, Spiderwitch

Summer Fun )O(

Merry meet all,

The month of June brings us the summer solstice, or Litha and Midsummer as it also known. I encourage you all, my dear readers, to look up the stars this month. A few cosmic events are heading our way. On June 10th, we have the first solar eclipse of 2021. Next, the Moon and Mars are very close to each other on the 14th. June 21st is the summer solstice. Yay! The last Supermoon is on June 24th! Charge. your crystals and honour the Moon Goddess!

I am very intrigued by the new Conjuring movie. But they bash witchcraft. So that turns me off. I may wait till it comes out on video or on Netflix. I have so many points but I am scared to see it alone. Such is my luck. It does look like a truly scary movie.

I have realized lately that I am too kind. I bought a book for Zak Bagans and his crew. I mailed it all the way to the States. I never thought it through enough. I should have known I would never get a thank you. I know the point is to give. I did do it with an open heart. I haven’t seen any mention on Twitter. I made a spooky bookmark for the book, wrapped it all up in black tissue paper, took real care with everything. I over extended myself. I am not doing that again.

My garden is growing just beautifully. I am eager to watch the giant pumpkin grow (here’s hoping), the yellow string beans, purple beans and green peas. As well as the basil, tomatoes, dill, elecampagne, cabbage, chard, popcorn, sunflowers, turnips, sage, nasturtiums, marigolds, etc. Yeah it will be a great harvest. I hope all my plants grow well, better than that, amazingly.

A deer visited the neighbours yard yesterday. She was beautiful- and elusive! That was amazing to see a deer in full view, sniffing and munching on plants. She walked through my garden patch. I saw the telltale hook marks she left behind. I did get a photo but not the greatest picture.

We are not in lockdown anymore here. The city has come to life! I can’t understand how our economy survives. I was vaccinated recently. My arm hurt a lot from the needle.

Being out in my garden and planting seeds and herbs has rejuvenated my spirit. I feel alive again. I’m not excited about the ticks and other pests, but I can work with that.

I have the best news! I saved this part for last! Tim Waggoner is my mentor!! He is an amazing writer. I am thrilled to have him as a mentor!! I am sure I will learn much about writing.

Count the days down to Summer Solstice!

Blessings, Spiderwitch
