StokerCon 2025

Merry meet all,

I am more settled into my boyfriend’s apartment. It was a lot of effort to sort through all the books but I succeeded. I had to accomplish the organizing of the books because I am attending StokerCon virtually in a few days. I can feel my best now. I am really looking forward to StokerCon.

‘Welcome to StokerCon 2025, the premiere horror literary convention presented by the Horror Writers Association. This year the convention is being hosted by the city of Stamford, Connecticut, at the Hilton Stamford Hotel and Executive Center–and online for all those unable to attend in-person. Starting virtually at 3 P.M. Eastern time on June 12 and running until 3 P.M. Eastern Time on June 15, 2025, virtual StokerCon will offer a wealth of new and encore on-demand programming, author readings, academic presentations, exhibitor booths, a special online screening of the Final Frame Film Competition–and live streamed panels direct from Stamford! Our guests of honor this year include: Scott Edelman, Paula Guran, Adam Nevill, Joyce Carol Oates, Gaby Triana, and Tim Waggoner. For more information, check out the StokerCon 2025 website.  StokerCon® has been a long celebrated convention for authors of the horror genre. It is an all-inclusive event where writers of all of the many subgenres the horror world may convene to share ideas, pitch their new projects, and revel in their weirdness. The past StokerCon conventions have always been joyous occasions. And we look forward to seeing familiar faces and new at virtual StokerCon 2025 convention. Please note that virtual StokerCon provides all-new and encore on-demand panels from previous StokerCons available as soon as the convention opens in the Expo Hall. Approximately 40 panels will be live-streamed from Stamford, and these will appear in the Sessions area approximately 15 minutes before they begin. These panels, which appear on the Schedule here are the only ones that will be live-streamed. Any panels listed in the Sched app but not listed here will not be broadcast.’

How can you pass that up? I am so excited. I plan to attend as many panel discussions as possible. The panel discussions sound just fascinating. I will be there with a coffee and a notebook. These discussions are amazing  and meant to insire you to write! I can’t write in all the panel discussions here but they are the biggest reason why I sign up. I also enjoy the Final Frame Short Film Competition and the Bram Stoker awards. I have already registered and signed up. I look forward to finding friends in the chat. 

Stokercon is a great place to network with like minded fans of horror in all its glory. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I enjoyed witchy mischief last night. I burned charcoal in my huge cauldron. I burned charcoal in the cauldron at the midnight hour. An open fire is illegal but witches bend the rules. Or we just would not be Witches. Now I have ash for my incense. I am happy about that. 

My altar is tucked in under the computer desk. It is a bit inconvenient but I don’t have as much space as I used to have.  So I have to think very carefully about how I will store everything. 

The next turn in the Wheel of the Year is Litha, or the Summer Solstice. I shall post more about that soon. I wish you all a magickal, exciting summer!

I attended the virtual StokerCon convention. I had a great time. I really recommend it to everyone. I enjoyed the panel discussions. It was better than the other Stokercon conventions. Also they had a moderator for the chat this time. I felt totally ignored and the other people attending virtually felt ignored too. This time there was a moederator for the chat. I am happy about that.

Paranormal Convention in Thunder Bay

I obtained a white garment like a nightgown. I like it because I can alter it to match the chemises that I see on the Holy Clothing website. I am not done yet but it will look great. I love this photo!

Thunder Bay paranormal convention set to showcase the spooky side of life this fall

Workshops, guest speakers will cover all manner of paranormal topics

With a slate of guest speakers and workshops on the schedule, the first-ever Lake Superior Paranormal Convention will shine a spotlight on the strange and spooky this fall.

The convention – which is being organized by Thunder Bay paranormal investigation group Lucky Paranormal – will take place in October at the Prince Arthur hotel. Tickets go on sale Saturday, March 2, and will be available online.

“At a paranormal convention, they have lots of speakers,” organizer and Lucky Paranormal member Gail Willis said. “All day long, you can listen to paranormal experts on paranormal activity, investigation, UFO’s, Sasquatch, Bigfoot, all of those types of things are spoken about openly at a convention.”

More than 15 guests have been booked so far. They include:

  • Beyond the Haunting Investigations of History’s Most Haunted;
  • Shane Pittman, from Netflix’s 28 Days Haunted and Discovery Channel’s The Holzer Files;
  • Author and researcher Jeff Belanger (Ghost Adventures and Paranormal Challenge);
  • Author and researcher Chris Rutkowski;
  • Thunder Bay writer Kim Casey;
  • Investigator and filmmaker Dee McCullay, and
  • The Winnipeg Paranormal Group.

The convention will also include vendors, as well as workshops on how to use some of the equipment paranormal investigators use, organizer and Lucky Paranormal member Mel Willis said.

The idea for the local convention grew out of visits to other, similar events by Lucky Paranormal members.

“We’ve gone to a number of conventions in the U.S.,” Mel Willis said. “There’s one in Halifax and that’s the only one across Canada and we’re like, ‘well, we’re smack in the middle of Canada, why not here?'”

Gail Willis said the convention isn’t only geared at investigators, and hopes that everyone with an interest in the supernatural will take away something worthwhile.

“I hope that they leave with more information,” she said. “I hope that they leave with a passion for the paranormal, and also maybe new connections.”

A few other events are scheduled around the main convention, which will take place on Saturday, Oct. 5. Those include:

  • A VIP party with celebrity guest speakers on the evening of Oct. 4;
  • A celebrity-led paranormal investigation at the Thunder Bay museum, scheduled for the evening of Oct. 5, and
  • Sunday Spirits n’ Sweets at Cafe Ora, which will include afternoon tea and coffee with Canadian psychic medium Kerrilynn Shellhorn on the afternoon of Oct. 6.

The Lake Superior Paranormal Convention itself, meanwhile, is scheduled for Oct. 5, 2024, at the Prince Arthur Hotel. For ticket information, visit the event’s website.

StokerCon 2022

Merry meet all,

StokerCon is only 2 days away. I am so excited!!! I stocked the pantry and want to tidy up, but I would say I am mostly prepared. Polar Borealis just released their newest issue #21. I want to tell you, dear readers, all about StokerCon in this post. StokerCon is the annual convention hosted by the Horror Writers Association wherein the Bram Stoker Awards for superior achievement in horror writing are awarded.

‘In 2022, when May rolls around and we gather in Denver for StokerCon®, the convention will have a new look. For the first time, we will offer three different experiences: the typical in-person event, a simultaneously held virtual convention hosted on Hopin (similar to 2021), and a combination in-person and virtual experience.

We learned valuable lessons from StokerCon® 2021 about the benefits of a virtual convention. We expanded our access to attendees throughout the world. The “hang out bars” gave us a way to reconnect after a year of lockdowns and cancelled events. We mitigated somewhat the time zone concerns by posting recorded panels, readings, and presentations. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive.

After some discussion, we decided to continue the virtual offering in addition to our regular in-person convention. But why an in-person and virtual option?

By offering a joint in-person and virtual option, we expand the programming offerings and the options by which attendees choose to participate. The virtual platform will host panels different from the in-person event, along with an expanded list of author readings, all prerecorded so you can view them during breaks in the Denver event. We hope to live stream certain Denver panels (to the extent our technology will allow) for our virtual attendees, but also record them, and make them viewable for everyone on Hopin. Have friends who could not travel to Denver but who will be present virtually? The “hang out bars” will return!

Here’s the real benefit, though. In 2021, we ran an encore of the virtual convention. We will do the same for 2022. Too busy during Denver to check out the virtual content or attend all the panels? You will have time after you return home to see it all and catch up on what you missed.

Our goal is to present the most robust programming coupled with the widest access for all who wish to attend or participate. We felt these three options helped us achieve that goal to its fullest potential.

The main events at StokerCon are the Final Frame Short Horror Film Competition, the Bram Stoker Awards, the Ann Radcliffe Academic conference, author signings and readings, and the panel discussions. I intend to enjoy every moment of it with a few glasses of nice red wine. Oh yes indeed! I will post all about it here when it’s over. So stay tuned! 

My seedlings are doing well. It won’t be long when I can plant them outside. I have a few weeks yet. I have a feeling this may be my best garden year yet.
