The post below is not for the faint of heart. ! Read on if you dare.

Contact with a Shadowman

Neuroscience and Paranormal Believers Have Different Theories

A shadow person is a humanoid figure that you perceive in a patch of shadow. Some believe that they are supernatural spirits or extradimensional beings.

Most encounters with shadow people—those smoky, person-shaped entities that move around in the dark—are fleeting glimpses. They are seen out of the corner of your eye, swiftly passing across a wall or ducking around a corner. You may wonder if the rational explanation for these quick glimpses are that they are imagined or just ordinary shadows of some kind. Maybe they’re real, maybe they’re not.

How to Conduct a Paranormal Investigation

Another kind of shadow person encounter—a close encounter of the second kind, to borrow J. Allen Hynek’s UFO classification system—is rarer and more compelling. The witness sees the shadow entity for an extended period, not merely a passing glance. It could be for a half minute, a few minutes or even more. The witness can often also detect human-like movement: the raising of an arm, the turn of a head, or walking. The witness gets a pretty good look at the thing and is able to describe it in some detail. Very often, these detailed descriptions compel the witness to ascribe an intelligence to the specter. It’s not just a shadow, it seems to be an entity that moves and even reacts with purpose.

A shadow person encounter of the third kind is rarer still: contact. In this case, the witness actually is touched or is otherwise affected physically by the entity.

The Nature of Shadow Beings

These perceptions of shadowmen often occur when you awaken partially and are in the stage of REM sleep paralysis. You are semi-conscious but your vivid dreams from REM sleep continue and you can experience hallucinations, including that there is an intruder in your bedroom. During this phase, you are unable to move or speak but your senses seem to be clear. Neuroscientists sayat least 20 percent of the population experiences these sleep paralysis episodes. Researchers have reproduced these feelings by stimulating a site in the brain’s left hemisphere.

When you are fully awake but hyper-vigilant, such as when walking alone at night, you might become fearful of any shadowy movement and imagine a threat.

Heidi Hollis wrote a book on shadow people, “The Secret War: The Heavens Speak of the Battle,” and appeared often on Art Bell’s “Coast to Coast AM” radio show to discuss the topic. She believes they are aliens and gives advice on warding them off. Shadow people have been the topic of horror movies and a 1985 “Twilight Zone” episode.

A Shadowman Encounter

Michael W. tells of his close encounter in the fall of 1998. It has many typical characteristics, including that his perceptions happened when he awoke during the night. He had just purchased a home and spent the day painting it before moving in. His friends left for the night but he decided to sleep in a bean bag chair. He awoke in the middle of the night feeling thirsty and went into the dark kitchen for a glass of water.

“That’s when I got a distinct feeling that someone was watching me. There at the top of the basement stairs and in front of the light switch, I could distinctly make out the figure of what I automatically assumed was my good friend Larry.” He called out to the figure, which didn’t respond. “I was still absolutely convinced that I was looking at a living person. My guard went up with the dangerous possibilities of who it could be.” He took out his pocket knife in case he needed to defend himself.

“Then in an instant, the shadow moved forward in my direction. I lunged forward with the knife extended outward. I saw the shadow move into my arm as if deliberately trying to impale itself on my weapon, and it kept on coming!” He screamed and the entity continued straight through his body.

“I spun around in a circular motion 180 degrees. I saw the shadow moving at an almost leisurely pace away from me. It proceeded through the large kitchen, into the adjoining dining room, and finally through the wall that would have led outside if it were a door.” He finally turned on the light switch. Wide awake now, he searched the house, found nothing, and evacuated to his old apartment for the rest of the night.

He never had a repeat of that encounter while living in the house. Of note, he said he wondered whether he was thirsty due to the paint fumes. A rational explanation would be that those could have been an influence, as well as an episode of a hallucination associated with sleep paralysis. He wondered if it might be associated with the address ending in 666 and that the house was aligned with magnetic north.

Witches Herbs

Merry meet all,

I just finished reading the book titled The Witching Herbs by Harold Roth. This wonderful book is meant for anyone who aspires to grow the bane herbs, or poisonous herbs in their gardens. Don’t grow any bane plants until you read this book. It will save your life. You really need to understand on a very sound and deep level how to work with the plants and not kill yourself or someone else in the process. I don’t want anyone growing any mandrakes, belladonna or nightshade without reading this book. I can’t emphasize enough how crucial this book is to your health and safety.

I am growing mandrake from seed! It is stored up high where it gets the fresh air and sunlight from the window. But it is up high where my cat can’t reach it. That is for her safety. Mandrake is a toxic plant and I will never let anything harm her- and me, as well. I want the mandrake for the root and I have just the spot to plant it. I have to wait till it is big enough to defend itself from slugs. Then it gets planted out. I almost grew wolfsbane. Wolfsbane is a plant that is exceedingly toxic. It goes by a few names such as wolfsbane, aconite, aconite – it’s botanical name and monkshood. Yet people grow it in their gardens! If you get that plant on your skin and touch your face, you can die right on the spot. The juices of the lovely but toxic plant can’t get into your bloodstream. I pitched the seedling container that had the wolfsbane seeds in it to the compost bin. There is too much risk in growing it. Children, animals and people all frequent the garden. No way would I risk harming them. This is why it is so vital to read that book.

I harvested the mugwort in my garden. The mugworts grew six feet high! I’m drying the leaves and stalks indoors. The leaves look so pretty on the branches as they slowly dry to a crisp. When it is ready, I will store the leaves in jars. I can’t wait. I bought a new set of jars just for that purpose. I am also drying chamomile. I will store the chamomile in jars too. I don’t crumble the leaves and flowers before I store them. They remain potent for a longer time when you do it that way. Just before you are about to use them, then you crumble the herbs. I plan to store more herbs this fall. I am just waiting to harvest them just before the frost.

Mugwort is a VERY invasive plant. I uprooted the strong healthy roots of the mugwort patch and put the mugwort into a planter. It will choke out anything else that grows nearby. Mugwort is best grown when it is contained. I hope the mugwort grows well in a container. The planter pot is very very deep. The roots were quite large so I needed a container that could accommodate the big roots. I have never seen such strong healthy roots such as the mugwort roots in my life. I have another plant I at first believed to be a poppy but now I think it is another mugwort. I don’t recall planting mugwort there but more mugwort is OK with me!

Today I cut off all the browned pea vines from 2 pots I was growing them in. I snipped away any remaining stems and tossed it all in the compost. I stirred the soil in the planters and added Gaia Green Organics fertilizer! This fertilizer is a miracle worker in your garden. It’s improved my plants and soil! My comfrey came back when I added it to the soil! I thought my comfrey died! It’s been given a second chance. I planted the sad looking onion seed sets that looked all wilted at the back of the garden into the plant pot. I added the fertilizer. The peas also fixed nitrogen into the soil. The onions might grow better now that they are exposed to more sunlight and are receiving more nutrients! I sure hope so. I am growing potatoes and my shallots grow better near the potatoes. I planted beans and chard in the second planter. I also fed them fertilizer and water in the pots. I was busy in my garden. I also just planted a few turnip seeds in another planter where I have potatoes growing. By the time I harvest the potatoes the turnips will really get going if the bugs keep off.

I harvested 4 pickling cucumbers so far! My tomatoes are growing too. I trimmed the bottom leaves that touch the ground to avoid the risk of disease. I also fertilized each tomato plant. Now they are growing yellow flowers and tomatoes! Many of my other herbs and flowers are growing beautifully! That is a post for another time. The bees keep visiting the lemon balm, cucumbers, and astilbe, clover and dandelions to pollinate. The lemon balm patch in my garden is huge. It is why everything else in my garden is growing well. Ok by me.

Samhain Secrets and drama queens

Merry meet all,

I am proud to announce that another short story of mine is published- again! Irish Horse Productions has published my short story, The Grimm Pumpkin, in Samhain Secrets. The book is available on Amazon. I am proud that my story is in its 4th reprint. It is the story of Samuel, a normal teenager who harbors a dark secrets about his ghoulish pumpkins. Here is the link to the book on Amazon. It is available as a paperback and Kindle: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07XL3RQK2/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i1?fbclid=IwAR3xI3GzZKR-kC_Xh7W5xZNZqHHkC9OPfeQ9QZqM5zJIH9yL8tvmASJt1jo

Samhain is here!  I am very happy and I bet you are all carving pumpkins while sipping cider with your friends. I was at the witch shop yesterday. I bought a beautiful black floor length velvet dress. The public Samhain Ritual will be on the Commons this year. This is a description of the event.

At Samhain Pagans celebrate the harvest while looking death in the eye. This public ritual provides an opportunity for people to come together and take stock of the year that was. Samhain is the time to commemorate our dead and reflect on our own mortality. All that falls shall rise again and Samhain is also a beginning. A fresh page.

This annual event was born on the Commons in 1997 and has always been open to the public. The ritual is designed to be inclusive and safe and provides a doorway into modern paganism for the curious newcomer.

The event is also designed to strengthen the local Pagan community. Drumming, dancing and chanting together in ritual removes barriers and builds bridges between us. This makes for a stronger community.

Indeed! It helps you to meet new people and see familiar faces, to share a passion with like minded people. It is a good time. If it is not a good time, you have found the wrong coven and need to seek out a new one. I go every year and I have always had a good time.

Now … here are a few more pointers on how to have the best most memorable and magical time you can have in terms of drama queens and toxic people. For example, I have made the decision to quit throwing parties and seances in my home. It is unfortunate but I went too way too much work for only 1 guest to arrive. I quit. The other guests were too obnoxious to attend. But you can bet they will all be attending the Public Samhain Rit on the Commons. I can’t help but take that personally.

I know I said I usually have a good time at the Public Ritual. This year, however, I know some people ugh and that includes my ex who I suspect is already seeing someone else (ouch) will be there. I have decided that I am distancing myself and maybe if it means not even really participating or if I do, to be standing far from him so the negative energies don’t ruin the event for me. I do have a right to a good time. I am not too nice anymore. I am setting new boundaries now. If I stay far from where he is, I should be fine. We have to establish healthy boundaries around ourselves. It is good for us. Boundaries are meant for the person not the many. I am not a people pleaser. But then being someone who has seen the worst in people, if anyone had gone through what I have been put through, not that I will be anymore, you would or may feel the exact same way.

So this year, make it your priority and stick to it to avoid the drama queens and the toxic psychos out there. You can do it and you will feel good about yourself. They are not hard to spot: they want all the attention on themselves, often at the expense of someone else, and that person is the one who is hurt usually. I no longer have the time for this.

I wish you all a toxic-free, merry Samhain!!

Blessings, Spiderwitch
