Demons and Parapsychology

Merry meet all,

I’m so excited, because I am enrolled in the Demonology course at the CAPRI’s Parapsychological Education Center. “This course delves into the intriguing field of Demonology and Religious Parapsychology, offering a comprehensive understanding of demonic entities, exorcism practices and the relationship between religion and the paranormal.” Wow. Plenty to love about this course. I received a 10% discount because I bought a ticket to attend the Paranormal Symposium. With a course syllabus like that, it is easy to see why I would be interested … and a little scared.

Demons? The fact that this course is being offered implies a little that they exist. I don’t want to think that they exist because demons are naturally evil. And I don’t believe that they exist. No one can say for sure. What I do know is that I will know more once I complete this course than I do now. I can’t wait but I have to wait till mid-October. I want to take the Parapsychology course as well. The Parapsychology course costs a little more but it is still affordable. I want to do both, hm, on top of my herbal studies and my writing, at least I won’t be suffering from boredom, far from it.

I have to write a case study about one of the following paranormal cases: The Exorcism of Anneliese Michel, The Smurl haunting, the Enfield Poltergeist, or the Ammons Haunting. I would love to say these are all true cases but I can’t. I would love to say they may all have truth to them. It is hard for me to say. They all sound intriguing so I think I will have a hard time picking one out of those choices. I believe in the case of Anneliese Michel though. I read about that. That poor girl, she suffered from something. I am on the fence about the Ammons Haunting. I don’t believe the kid walked up the hospital wall because in the video, his mother or a relative is helping him up the wall. Now if he did it on his own and he looked way more creepy while he did it. I know there was lead and asbestos in the house which can lead to health complications and cause hallucinations. I am on the fence about the Enfield haunting and the Smurl haunting. It is so hard for me to say which is true and which is not. I have never been to those locations.

On the other hand, I have had more than my own share of legitimate paranormal encounters/ experiences. I try not to judge too harshly. I keep an open mind. So I really do look forward to taking these courses. It helps a lot that my herb course is for 2 years. I can achieve a lot of other stuff in the interim.

I am so happy that I found the Paranormal Phenomena Research & Investigation group. I feel better since I have been alone so long being a medium. It has come with challenges. I am up for meeting those challenges. I just don’t feel so alone now. It is a huge relief and they share my passions. It is a win-win!

October is shaping up already to be a lot of fun! And right now, it is only mid-September. I would love to hear about your own paranormal or Samhain plans! Let me know in the comments below!

Never Summon what you can’t Banish

Merry meet all,

I watched The Conjuring 3 last night. Right from the beginning of the movie, the terror (at least for me) never let up. I mean wow the acting was amazing. I felt so bad for David Glatzel and Arnie Johnson. The possessions looked so real and believable. Wow what an amazing and terrifying movie.

Ed and Lorraine Warren are in the midst of an exorcism for David Glatzel. The poor kid contorts, growls and screams. The older boy who is somehow related to the family dares the demon to possess him instead to spare the younger boy. That is where the movie and the story- and trouble really start. What chilled me was how normal the possessed victims could seem at times, as if the demon was temporarily subdued. The lawyers all refuse to accept demonic possession as a reason for the murder Arnie commits on his landlord as a motive for murder. This was supposed to be the first case and first time that demonic possession was used as a reason for why Arnie killed his landlord.

“The Glatzel Family

The title of the movie comes directly from the nickname of the real Arne Johnson case – known as the “The Devil Made Me Do It” case.

The Glatzels were a real family who called in help from Ed and Lorraine Warren after 11-year-old David Glatzel began exhibiting increasingly strange behavior, claiming he saw visions of an old man who appeared as a beast, talking in otherworldly voices, and displaying scratches and bruises on his body. The Warrens diagnosed him as being possessed and several exorcisms were carried out, where the family claims David levitated.

The contortions David goes through in the movie are artistic license – though it’s worth noting they’re performed by a real person, a little girl, with Julian Hilliard’s face CG-ed on top.

At the end of the movie, during the credits, you can hear the real recording of what happened.

Ed’s Heart Attack

We could find nothing to suggest that Ed had a heart attack immediately following David Glatzel’s exorcism, although Ed would eventually die of a heart attack in 2006.

Arne Johnson

Arne was a real person and as in the movie, he was dating, and later married Debbie Glatzel, David’s sister. During one of David’s exorcisms, Johnson supposedly challenged one of the many demons allegedly possessing David and invited the demon to leave David and possess him instead. Following this incident Johnson apparently began to display odd behavior similar to David’s.

As in the movie, Debbie worked at a dog kennel and her employer was also her landlord. Unlike in the movie, where he’s called Bruce (played by Ronnie Gene Blevins), in real life his name was Alan Bono. On the day the murder was committed, Arne and Debbie were with Arne’s sister Wanda and Debbie’s 9-year-old cousin, Mary. They had been out for lunch with Bono who had been drinking. Later on an altercation took place where Bono grabbed Mary, and Arne ordered him to release her. Debbie apparently tried to deescalate the situation but Arne started growling like an animal then pulled out a knife and stabbed Bono to death. As in the movie, Debbie was a witness.

The Disciples of the Ram

The Disciples of the Ram aren’t real but they might be loosely inspired by real cults such as the Manson family –  this lot appeared first in the movie Annabellewhich is a fictionalized backstory of the doll (which is a real doll that was kept in the Warren’s artifact room).

Katie and Jessica

The murder of Katie by Jessica and Jessica’s apparent suicide afterward never happened, and the film doesn’t give a massive amount of backstory about these two. However, DC Comics has launched a new book titled DC Horror Presents: The Conjuring: The Lover #1, which specifically focuses on Jessica and how her possession comes about. It works as a direct prequel to the movie.

Kastner and the Occultist

Certainly no mention of these elements of The Conjuring:The Devil Made Me Do It were ever brought up in the real case. These parts of the film lean into the Satanic Panic of the 1980s, implying that David Glatzel was deliberately cursed by a devil worshipper looking to gain great power. It’s a fun bit of horror, which nods to other genre films and allows the Warrens to have an adventure with an actual antagonist rather than making the film a courtroom drama.

The Court Case

It is true that Johnson’s lawyer – a man named Martin Minnella – did try to present possession as a defense but the judge wouldn’t permit it. Instead Arne’s lawyers went for a self-defense plea. He got convicted of first degree man-slaughter, was sentenced to 10-20 years in prison and served five.

Michael Taylor

In the movie Ed Warren mentions to the lawyer that there had been a British case in the past where demonic possession had been considered a factor. The name Ed mentions is Michael Taylor. Taylor was part of a religious group in Ossett in the UK, who in 1974 began behaving weirdly. After a time, a decision was made that Taylor must be under the influence of a demonic presence and an exorcism was carried out. Vicars said he was possessed by 40 demons, and over an eight-hour exorcism they managed to rid him of most them, though they apparently didn’t manage to get those pesky last few – leaving those representing insanity, anger, and murder behind.

Sent home to rest before the exorcism would be completed, Taylor went to his house and brutally murdered his wife. Though details of the exorcism were discussed in court, Taylor was found not guilty by reason of insanity, and rather than arguing he was actually possessed, the defense placed a level of blame at the feet of the religious group.

Carl Glatzel Jr.

Not mentioned in the film is the fact that some years later, David and his older brother Carl filed a lawsuit against Lorraine Warren and writer Gerald Brittle who co-authored a book about the case, titled The Devil in Connecticut, after it was reprinted in 2006. Carl claimed that the possession was a hoax, that his brother was mentally ill, and that the Warrens had concocted the story for financial gain, convincing the Glatzels that it would make them wealthy and help get Debbie’s boyfriend out of jail.

Lorraine Warren and Brittle stood by their work, with Warren pointing out that six priests had agreed David was possessed. Debbie and Arne supported the Warrens’ version of events

The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It is out now in cinemas.

I enjoyed the movie The Conjuring 3: The Devil Made me Do it. I hope you all have a chance to watch the film too. I had to see it alone. That was not easy. I mean I wasn’t alone in the theatre. I just went to the movie alone. I wish I could have snuggled up next to my date – not that I have one. I would have felt tons better. The terror never lets up. I found parts of it even funny, like when Ed Warren transforms into a version of Jack Torrance, chasing Lorraine Warren down dark tunnel. Patrick Wilson is not only damn hot but a wicked actor who deserves an Oscar for his acting in this movie.

The Conjuring 3 had a new director. I think that more horror movies should be made by that director. He knows what he is doing. I am sure that the movie would have been far less terrifying if it was directed by Wan. Grab some popcorn, and see this movie. It will make you leave the lights on all night.

Haunted or not haunted?

Merry meet all,

I cleaned my broom closet this week. The closet desperately needed to be cleaned. I didn’t clean the closet floor in months. I thought I smelled something off, like a dead mouse. Turned out to not be the case. I removed everything- by that I mean, lots of cloth bags, the recycling bin, the 2 glass cloches, a lamp, tote bins, plastic boxes, a big heavy bookcase, a tall plastic stand with clear plastic drawers. I was quite tired after all that heavy lifting. I swept and mopped the floor then sorted through it all. I returned everything but the bookcase and the junk/ trash to the closet. Now I have more room and order. My Mom has the bookcase which I took to her apt today via cab. She also has the old laptop, keyboard, charger and mouse. My whole place is more organized and clean. I love it!! I emptied a tote bin of ancient belongings I don’t care about.

I believed for a long time that my closet was haunted. But I spoke with a guy I know after showing him a photo of my closet. He believes there is nothing nefarious down there. He thinks the broom closet just has trapped energy that is hemmed in and can’t move. I hung a pentacle and gemstones in a pouch down there. I used salt and sage in the closet. My EMF meter would glow too. It lit. up. Then I was forced to debunk my theory about the EMF meter when I realized that it lit up because of the power box, not spooks being the cause.

That said, a power box is not usually a reason for why I feel followed as I climb the steps up to the main floor. I show photos of my broom closet to mediums and psychics and they believe that there is something – a spirit, an earthbound ghost in the closet. Some people have gone far enough to tell me they think there is a demon down there. I don’t believe that. I am willing to believe there is a spirit but it is not demonic. Here’s why.

The energy is contained, hemmed in. A demon cannot be trapped. A demon will likely go anywhere it damn well pleases. The energy is contained and has been that way all the time I have lived there. If you think this through, it really makes no sense. Not all spirits or ghosts, forerunners etc are demons.  If you ever have a demon in your home, you would know it. They are like insects, they make themselves known. So I don’t believe it is a demon. My cat sits down there and she is calm. If you do have a demon,  your cat will hide under the bed and never come out, no matter how much you coax it. Animals are exceedingly attuned to energies and far more psychic than we are. So if she is calm, I am calm.

Some nights I see the spirit always in that one spot, practically staring back at me. Other times, it is not there and everything feels calm. Some people are quick to conclude it must be a demon. They never take the time to think it through. I just watched a little part of Ghost Adventures. This woman claimed that her home was haunted by a nasty – ok nasty-demon. She had moved to stay with a relative. Bad move there. The entity was then free to do as it willed. It didn’t sense a threat. She also took people in who had serious mental problems and had severe addictions. What a dumb woman. I am talking heroin addicts. Again, bad move. I mean she was dumb. My mother took boarders in but she screened them and made them give her glowing references. No heroin addict is going to have a clear record or give a glowing reference. Then she wonders why she has such serious issues. There was no demon, she just had serious issues. My mother would never have taken in a heroin addict. I wonder what that woman was thinking. It’s clear she wasn’t thinking. I have seen  a shadow person in my home but I think that something more serious was going on there.

I think they were wasting their time. But they are clearly as gullible as her. Most people want something to cry about. I can give an example here. These people for whatever reason- and don’t ever do this in your home- nailed ouija boards to the walls of the building. I would NEVER do that. Ever. This one tenant then claimed that a demon had infested itself to the building. However, when I entered to offer help to the guy, I did feel a nasty energy there. The very second I entered, I felt it. It hit me like a huge wave. So perhaps there was something in there. But I found his later claims hard to believe. I needed to see it to believe it. But then I am that way about everything. I am impatient and stubborn and not so gullible.

That woman I mentioned above would just be fair game for a bad entity. I felt bad about how she found her husband lying dead. Ouch. Entities can prey on a person feeling vulnerable. She was operating on a much lower vibration. Entities can sense that. It is a beacon to them. Oh yes they do pick up on that. It is like the glow from the lighthouse for ships that have to make port. That shines very bright to them and it is irresistible. If something did haunt her to wreak havoc in her life, it found her signal. I would taste bad to an entity because I know how to shield myself. She still deserves a hug.

I have studied psychic development and psychic shielding. I am a much harder target for a nasty entity to feed off of. I wish that woman had studied what I did and knew what I know. She would be much happier and if she used her brains, not let heroin addicts move in. I mean C’mon. That only leads to problems. I hope she works everything out in her life. Then her vibration will be higher.

Witchcraft is shrouded in mystery. We were and are persecuted. It is not what people think. People only see what they want to see, not the facts. That woman in the show is a perfect example. She saw what she wanted to see: oh my god my home is overrun by demons. Well maybe. Lots of bad stuff was happening which would draw them to her. But if Witches are so bad, which isn’t true, then why are we the ones who know how to psychically shield ourselves from such negativity? Again, the endless and needless persecution. If people used their brains and learned how to shield themselves, they would be faring much better in life- but Ghost Adventures would be out of work,. People need to believe they are being attacked to get to appear on the notorious show. Heck, the ghost hunters don’t even shield themselves. They let themselves get affected. Oh it’s proof. It seems sadistic to me.

But again, it comes back to the mystery. I believe- and this is just me, that everyone on earth is entitled to learn how to psychically shield themselves. Everyone. I wish it was more common knowledge. Then if there were nasty entities hanging around, the entities would find themselves faced with a challenge. Unfortunately, that is not the case. That’s sad. You don’t need to be a Witch to study psychic development. It would benefit people in many ways, some of which are mentioned in this post. I hope that more people do get the chance to study psychic development. It is a natural thing to do and it takes a bit of hard work, but the payoffs are amazing. It’s the difference between a friend handing you $5 or the lottery jackpot. Don’t you want the jackpot? I do. They would have to let go of their temptation to stigmatize psychic development and witchcraft. As if that would ever happen.

I don’t believe that my broom closet is haunted by a demon. It could be haunted or it more likely is just trapped energy. I did sprinkle holy water in it which did help. It has not harmed me so it is not that nefarious. Until something nasty happens, and I may be waiting a long time for that, I will just chill.

I am more qualified than most to conjure spirits. As I have demonstrated above, I am more practical and psychically trained. I have been trained in mediumship, psychic development and psychic shielding. I have done a lot of meditation work, trance work, visualization, etc. I would never nail an ouija board to my walls or use an ouija board in a warehouse at midnight for shits and giggles. I take it seriously. When you don’t respect it, that is when you have problems.

Blessings, Spiderwitch

The Enfield Poltergeist

Merry meet all,

The moon wanes. The harvest Sabbat continues. The moon sign is currently in Aries. Now is the time to focus on the old projects  you may have procrastinated on. October 31st/ Samhain is the Witches New Year. I want to complete a lot of tasks/ chores or projects before then. That includes completing the cosplay costume, my writing projects and housework. I know some of it sounds redundant but I love a good clean home.

For some cool tips on how to eliminate clutter from your home- and I fight a constant battle with that too, watch this video by a gothic vampire with a sense of humor on youtube: https://youtu.be/RRwGPwNI6zA

Enjoy! He is eccentric but he is funny. I enjoy his videos. It’s inspired me to paint my own furniture. I can’t wait.  I promise to post pics on it when I am all done.

The next upcoming Sabbat is Mabon. I love Mabon. It’s just as magical as Samhain. know that social distancing and wearing masks is dampening our spirits a little. We can all still enjoy Mabon -and Samhain! We just have to be more cognizant. Mabon delights our senses with beautiful autumn leaves in colorful splendor. Golds, reds and brown are painted across the trees that take our breath away. Pumpkins sit on porches. Yup it’s our favorite time of year.

Our spooky tale for this post focuses on the Enfield Poltergeist. Btw, I love the movie Poltergeist.

THE ENFIELD POLTERGEIST – THE TRUE STORY OF THE ENFIELD HAUNTING AND THE CONJURING 2

“The Enfield poltergeist – the name given to the story of the paranormal phenomena that occurred at an entirely normal council house in Enfield, North London, is one of Britain’s most beloved and well-known ghost stories. It’s also been the center of a major Hollywood feature film, The Conjuring 2, as well as a Sky series titled The Enfield Haunting – both with star-studded casts.

The story of the Enfield poltergeist house has divided many, with a number of respected members of paranormal societies believing the account of the Hodgson family to be entirely true, although many sceptics think that there are many elements of the story that earmark it as being a hoax. Although we may not ever know for sure what happened, the poltergeist in Enfield is still one of the most fascinating ghost stories in modern British history.

WHERE IT ALL BEGAN

aftermath-janet-attack

The Enfield poltergeist story began in 1977 and centered on the Hodgson family, mainly on the youngest daughter, Janet. Mother Peggy, daughters Margaret, 13 and Janet, 11 and sons Johnny, 10, and Billy, 7, were living in a semi-detached council house in Enfield. It was an entirely normal, non-descript house. We normally hear of tales of ghostly encounters in grander settings: hotels, castles and ancient buildings, so the haunted house in Enfield resonated with families across Britain because it was real; it was close to home, it felt like it could happen to us.

The first event in the haunting is disputed, but it’s thought to be either the beds moving around Janet and Margaret’s room, or, the chest of drawers moving forwards and then moving backwards. In both cases, Peggy told the children to stop messing around, and didn’t believe that anything was happening until she moved the chest of drawers back into place, only to see it move once again. With that, she became frightened and ran to the neighbor’s house: the neighbor’s then accompanied them back to the house, only to hear further unexplained noises, such as knocks and banging noises from various places in the house, with no particular source. The police were called and they too heard the noises but could not trace their source.

THE POLTERGEIST IN ENFIELD: CAPTURED ON FILM

janet-being-thrownOne of the many reasons that the haunted house in Enfield became such a worldwide sensation was because many of the paranormal events that took place inside the home were captured on film. Once the police were called, many more events began to take place: items were regularly thrown around, Janet, the youngest daughter spoke in strange voices and snarls and she was thrown around her bedroom.

One image shows her, midair, in a seemingly impossible leap. Maurice Grosse and Guy Playfair, two of the investigators in the case, from the Society for Physical Research, maintain that they believe the haunting was genuine and caught many of the now-infamous images on film.

Much of the equipment used in their investigation was often found to be malfunctioning upon entering the Hodgson household, despite working perfectly well beforehand, although Janet was found to have hidden a tape-recorder and was video-taped bending spoons on another occasion.

They believe that much of the activity surrounding the Enfield ghost was genuine, although they do suspect that some of the occurrences were exaggerated by Janet for increased attention by reporters. As an example, Playfair said that Bill, one of the voices Janet became most well-known for, had some similar vocal tics and habits to Janet, such as changing the topic of conversation often. Whilst this doesn’t necessarily mean that Bill wasn’t “real”, it does raise questions: why would Bill speak in such a similar manner to Janet?

THE TRUTH ABOUT JANET

Although there are many theories about the truth of the Enfield poltergeist house and there are many who believe the Enfield poltergeist is hoax and nothing more than a figment of a creative yet troubled young girl.

Most investigators believe that the story begins and ends with Janet. The newspapers wrote about the Enfield ghost and the Enfield poltergeist; many also wrote scathing stories about Janet: Janet, the young girl at the very heart of the story. Whether or not she was lying about some or all of the activity, we’ll never know, but there is little doubt in most people’s minds that at least some of the phenomena – at least in the beginning – was real.

Perhaps Janet started to appreciate the increased attention that she, a middle child in a working-class family was finally starting to get, for perhaps the very first time, and so she started to exaggerate some of the activities going on around her in order to gain more notoriety, exposure and attention. Or, perhaps Janet’s story simply echoes other poltergeist stories: typically, poltergeist encounters occur around young women, before they enter puberty. Janet was at exactly the right age for such an encounter and for all we know some of her behaviors, such as bending spoons and hiding a tape-recorder, may have been encouraged by said poltergeist.

WHERE DO THE WARRENS FIT IN?

the-warrensThe Warren investigators were well-known paranormal investigators in the 1960s and 1970s and in fact, they may well be better-known today following the three blockbuster films based on their story: The Conjuring, The Conjuring 2 (Enfield Poltergeist Film) and Annabelle.

The Conjuring 2 true story differs from the film quite a bit. The Conjuring 2 showed the Warrens as being incredibly involved in the case of the Enfield poltergeist house, but this may be more than a little bit misleading. In fact, Guy Playfair, one of the investigators in the case, said that the Warrens turned up to the Enfield house uninvited and actually stayed for just one day.

Ed Warren also reportedly told Playfair that a lot of money could be made from the case, which could indicate why the Warrens themselves turned up to do their own bit of investigation.

WHAT ABOUT BILL?

Perhaps the most interesting part of the whole case centers on Bill, the voice that Janet was heard to use and speak with on a number of occasions, in a gruff, low tone. Some research suggests that the idea of using a different voice or a number of different voices might have been “planted” in Janet’s head by Grosse.

Janet told reporters that Grosse had told her that the voices were needed so they could talk and immediately following, the voices came. Something unexplained about Bill however, is how Janet could have known that Bill died of a hemorrhaged in the armchair in the living room of the house, which was later confirmed by his son – that a man named Bill had died in the house, of a hemorrhage, sitting in his chair in the living room.

The Bill story is what gives the the Enfield Poltergeist case that feeling; that tips skeptics over from not being sure into being believers.

SO WHAT HAPPENED?

After a year and a half of activity, the phenomena at the Enfield house abruptly came to an end. No-one knew why, but these sorts of hauntings are common with poltergeists: they stop, they start, and the family gets back to normal.

During that year and a half, many phenomena occurred: furniture moving, electrical equipment malfunctioning, Janet spoke in different voices and snarls, knocks and banging sounds could be heard from around the house – and from what we can tell, the family could not find a source for any of these activities, at least in the beginning.

Whether or not the Hodgson family was telling the whole truth remains to be seen, but we still can’t come up with a reasonable explanation for the Bill story. Can you?

You’ve read up on the conjuring 2 film, please see our article on the Conjuring True Story here.”
