Ostara

Merry meet all,

Last night a mouse appeared by my front door in the hall. Penny tore after the terrified mouse like a bat out of hell. I heard squeaks and saw something small and grey running for its life. Not that I blame the mouse. Penny is one cute cat but she is also a huntress by nature. Sometimes I forget that.

I am so excited!!!  It’s great owning a new computer monitor and printer et al. But that’s not the best news!!!! I am attending the virtual StokerCon of May 2021. Oh my gosh I can’t wait. I wish I could attend the real StokerCon but I am just grateful enough for the virtual event!!

Their videos are posted on YouTube. Here is the link: https://youtu.be/2gjsyb1yRwU.

I have watched a few episodes on YouTube. What is so chilling is that they are so authentic. I have witnessed orbs, and they’re equipment not working, and cold spots. Scott Bower is a very nice person. It is just the three of them- his team and they go on paranormal investigations and genuinely experience the paranormal. It is not as flashy and stylish as Ghost Adventures but I enjoy watching Ghost Trackers for their authentic encounters. I mean I wish I had a team of investigators with me when I want to go ghost hunting.

I have more good news. My article about my own haunted hometown of Halifax will be published in The Feminine Macabre by SpookEats. This is the second reprint of my article. The journal The Feminine Macabre is an all women journal devoted to all things paranormal. I am happy to be included in the journal sure to be jam packed with spine tingling stories. The first Volume will have a foreword written by Patti Neghri of Ghost Adventures! My story will appear in Volume 2. I shall. keep you posted. Volume 2 will be released this August.

Ostara is the next turn in the Wheel of the Year. Spring inches closer and closer. Ostara is the spring equinox. From here on in, we can bid the dark half of the year farewell as we embrace the lighter half of the year. I am eager to start gardening. Ostara is the time when night and day are in equal perfect balance. I look forward to Ostara, the second spring Sabbat in the wheel of the year.

Blessed Be, Spiderwitch

Romancing the Dark Side- in defence of the “Dark Arts’.

cauldronsmoky

Merry meet all,

I explore graveyards. I worship my ancestors at my ancestors altar. I read dark fiction and hold a fascination with the paranormal. I love bats and cats and the moon. I own a ghosts and spirits tarot deck. I go where few dare to tread. Yet I see nothing wrong with writing horror. My mother doesn’t like it even though she supports what I do. She knows why I do what I do but she has her own opinions, which she is entitled to.

Most Wiccans, ok some, are the fluff bunny type. I’m going out on a wire here and dare to cross a line. I am all about honouring nature. I own a garden where I grow herbs and flowers. I am aware of the environmental issues and I do my part as best I can. There is only one planet Earth. We should take care of her or we will have nowhere to practice our craft. The moon is a poor replacement. Seriously.

I love to burn black candles, wear black nail polish and black clothes. I read the book Memento Mori yet couldn’t drum up the same enthusiasm from others and wondered why. I was called the Grim Reaper for wearing a black cloak- in my defence, I was cold! I like to include the darker gods and goddesses in my practice and my writings. I own skulls and don’t shy away from the darker herbs. Skulls don’t scare me. Crows have warned me of a death. I don’t hurt spiders and can’t fathom why some people sprinkle spider killing powders in their homes. They are the world’s best insect predators. Where would we be without them? I am one of the few grey or darker witches in Halifax.

But it all started when I found out about necromancy. I finally found my calling. I plan to perform the pact ritual where you basically sell your soul back to yourself. You reclaim your power. I just need to obtain a few ‘provisions’, such as a lancet, herbs, a skeleton key, a mirror, a skull. Once I have everything, I will be able to perform the ritual. I finally found something deeper- and darker, but I was searching for that ‘deeper something’ and found it. I think this truly hearkens back to the Witches of Olde.

If this is my calling, I don’t mind. I revel in it. I get odd looks when I walk out in public, cloaked. I am one of the few who do. I see it as something with substance. I mean honouring a flower is all good and well but not the same thing. Ancestor worship should be done all year not just on October 31st. So it comes as no shock to know I perform an ancestral supper on October 31st, on Samhain eve.

I just completed a 5-day Tarot plunge course. The course was offered online. I enjoyed the course and learned new things and was reminded of what I already knew. It was fun to do. I plan to finish my paranormal novel and send it off to editors. A friend is reading it right now. I might write a chapbook of horror themed poetry. I applied to attend the StokerCon festival hosted by the Horror Writers Association.

Black roses unfurl! Show us your glory! Let bats swoop through the nights and owls pursue mice. Black candles burn, their flickers whisper secrets to the moonlight. I may be alone in my deep plunge into this darkness but it is oh so satisfying, more than just plain old navel gazing. I keep a photo of my grandfather on my altar. I loved him in life and honour him in death. I am sure he watches over me. I want to learn all I can about it.

So to those who are like me, you’re not alone. Blessings to you!

Animal Spirits

MagickJPG

Merry meet all,

As I type, my pet guinea pig, who is the epitome of a rascal, is playing in the big cage today. He has a bottomless appetite and is absolutely adorable. He’s my awesome little animal familiar.

In my novel, Between the Worlds, Rosemary Bell has a furry animal familiar too. She has a pet Siamese cat named Siam. Siam is cute and every inch a cat. An animal familiar helps a Witch to perform his or her magick. Animal familiars appear in the famous poem by Shakespeare in the play Macbeth. It’s Siam who helps Rosemary realize her home is haunted by the ghost of Jonathan Fraser.

Cats sense energies and spirits. It’s one of the reasons why I created Siam. They can see things that people can’t see. Cats are very sensitive to certain things, and they are so intelligent and adorable.

Here is a beautiful photo of a bobcat in Pleasant Bay:

bobcat1 He may be hard to spot, because he camouflages so well but he is there. He was so beautiful, powerful and graceful. I am lucky to see that. The bobcat appeared then returned to hunting mice, voles and rats.

It is cats’ supposed sensitivity to spirits that is one of the main reasons why I included Siam in the book. There is a theory that if you look between the ears of a cat where the cat is looking that you can see the ghost that the cat can see. I am tempted to test this theory. I promise to let you all know how it goes.

A friend of mine performed a smudging ritual on my home the other night. I apparently have mischievous imps in my home. That explains the small dark things I sometimes see out of the corner of my eye. They are not evil, just full of mischief. My magick practice may have attracted them. Stefan and I used a lemon, water, salt and sweetgrass. After he left, I felt uneasy but now the energy has settled. I wish I had a cat in here while performing the smudging. I saw an imp while Stefan was here and it would have been cool to see how a cat would react.

I have even seen the ghosts of my pets after they have passed. No kidding. My pet guinea pig Twotone died of malocclusion sadly. I was sitting on my bed bawling my heart out when she appeared. I saw her clear as day. She seemed to be so serene. I heard beautiful harp like music. She appeared to me in a flash and didn’t want me to grieve. She was saying goodbye. I sat there for a long time waiting for her to reappear. Nope.

Animals are very special, be they dog, guinea pig or cat. They all have a special place in our hearts. There is way more kindness shown to animals in the world today. They deserve all the love they can get. I plan to adopt a kitten in the future. For now, Magic is getting all the love and attention he could ask for.

Blessed Be, Lady Spiderwitch )O(
