Social Media and our Health

Merry meet all,

I think we’re in the midst of a Stephen King movie. It sure feels that way. I just washed my dishes, swept and washed my floors. My place feels so clean!! My cat is siting on the floor near me. She is giving me THE LOOK!! anyone who has a cat knows that look. It means… serve me now, human.

While you are all in self-isolation, what are you doing with your time? I am taking this time to catch up on projects I have been meaning to do for a while. I just bought a sewing machine. I have projects to complete so that will be fun. Nothing makes me feel better than finishing something. I plan to do a lot of cooking too. I want to use up the food I have before it spoils. I made vegetarian chili for supper tonight. Yum!

I hope my seeds come up soon. Every day for a week I have checked and there’s been no sign. I have to be patient. I also have writing projects to finish. Wow me bored? Naw.

How are you all going to spend your time? Well I can make a few suggestions.

Spring clean, prepare for Beltane, sort out your unwanted items and have them ready to donate them later, clean your pantry, clean the litter box, see? There are things to do. We can all still practice our Craft.

To stay sane in this troubled time, my best suggestions is to avoid bad news. Yes this means the news on social media. I know how attached you all are to your laptops, phones and tablets. But I know I feel a lot better avoiding Facebook mostly and instead posting cute cat pics on Instagram. I live with severe anxiety so I have to avoid bad news. That bad news can be anything but if it was serious enough, then by all means read it. Then you can just send the bad energy away. Like you are blowing out a candle and you see the smoke fade away? That’s sort of a similar idea here. You don’t have to follow all the news. It fills your head with nasty unpleasant negative energy. Is that what you really want?

Essential oils carry naturally antiseptic, antiviral, and cleansing properties. The best oils to use to disinfect a working space if you work from home or are at work are lavender, eucalyptus, lemon, peppermint, and tea tree oil. Don’t ingest them or rub them on your skin. However, you can dampen a paper towel and use a diluted essential oil in water to clean a desk. The regular cleansers they sell in stores contain toxic chemicals. So I prefer to use essential oils and they smell great!!!

Essential oils can be used in diffusers as well to clear a room of negative energy, rid a room of a bad smell or relax you. So it may be wise to invest in a few. Just be sure to pay a reasonable price!

Please do protect yourselves and your loved ones.

Stay safe, everyone. Blessings and health wishes to you all,

Spiderwitch

Ostara Gardens

Merry Meet All,

This post is about two different topics. One, I want to encourage all of that if you are starting seedlings to grow in your garden, to buy a new bag of seedling soil. I say this because I started with regular dried out potting soil and that won’t help your plants to grow. I tossed out the soil and recycled the egg carton. Now I have a new bag of proper soil for seeds, a tray, and I have turned it into a mini-greenhouse. The soil you choose to use does make a difference on whether you grow anything. The jiffy pots can be purchased at a thrift or dollar store and are so easy to use because you plant them in the soil with the seedling. You want healthy tomatoes or lavender, right? It will hopefully not be expensive but make a huge difference in helping your seedlings to grow.

Now is the perfect time to plan a magical garden. A truly, bewitching and enticing garden that is pleasing to the eye, day and night. I always let my perennials claim their spots before moving in new plants. Some suggestions for a lunar garden are

dusty millers
silver lamb ears
moonflower
silver thyme
mugwort.

Flowers with lunar connections are

Camphor
Eucalyptus
Gardenia
Jasmine
Moonwort
Sandalwood
Willow
Sleepwort

I planted silver lambs ears beneath my Echinacea. It was a beautiful and bewitching sight. You can always arrange plants to enhance other plants. Once you have grown your Moon Garden plants, dry them to use in talismans and charms, or to dress a Moon candle or as part of a purification bath. Use them in herbal blends to enhance your dreams, intuition, and wisdom.

I hope this encourages you to design and dream about your own gardens. May the energy of the Goddess be with you.

Blessed Be,
Lady Spiderwitch

The Goddess Brigid

Merry Meet All,

Brigid is a triple goddess. She is the goddess of sovereignty. She is the goddess of Fire, poetry, smithcraft and healing. Often goddesses were given many attributes, not only one. The Welsh word for king, ‘brenin,’ was thought to mean ‘consort of Brigantia. Bruide was the Pictish word for royal throne name. The Bruide name was allotted to each Pagan Pictish King who was perceived as the male manifestation of the Spirit of the Goddess. But the Welsh and Pictish names for the kinds proves that there was widespread favor and honor of the Goddess Brigid.

Brigid is also connected to divination. Since she is a goddess of fire and smithcraft, magick involving candles and fire would be appropriate for Imbolc. Pyromancy is a form of divination that you can practice. Set a candle on your altar and make yourself comfortable. Meditate to be open to receiving any messages. Pray to your deities/ animal totems/ or spiritual guide to guard you as you meditate. Visualize a sacred circle cast around you to discourage any unwanted energies.

Think of any questions you may have and gaze into the candle flames. Phrase the question short and to the point. Try asking something that would require a yes or no answer. Note if you see any dancing flames. Listen to the logs snap.

When you have received an answer to your questions, thank the fire deity and your spirit guides for their presence. Note the answers in your journal or Book of Shadows. The answers may not come into clear form. Trust your initial impressions. Release the circle of protection, and return your awareness to the room you’re in.

You could write down a wish on a sheet of paper and cast the paper into the flames. If it burns fast, it will come to you fast. If it sparks and takes a longer time to burn, you have longer to wait for the wish to manifest itself. Tune into your feelings.

Tomorrow I will post about a cleansing and purification ritual for Imbolc.
Tend the hearth!!

Blessed Be,
Lady Spiderwitch
