November’s Mists

Merry Meet All,

Had too much spiked cider? November is the calm after the storm. The festivities of Samhain have passed and now it is the time to retreat and enjoy the quiet warmth of November. Leaves have fallen and crunch underfoot. The last of the root vegetables linger at the Farmers Markets.

November is the month of Scorpio, the scorpion (October 23-November 21). Then it changes to Sagittarius. November begins with the Feast of the Dead on the 1st. All Souls Day lands on November 2. The 10th of November brings Martinmas Eve, the Scots Pagan Festival of Nincnevin in honor of the Goddess Diana. The 11th of November marks the onset of winter, the festival of Einherjar, of spiritual warriors protecting Valhalla. The 16th of November marks the celebration of Hecate. Later in the month is the Full Moon, or Frost Moon. The 22nd of November celebrates the Northern Festival of Ydalir and commemorates the Norse god Ullr. The 27th of November marks my birthday. In the Celtic calendar, it is the beginning of a new year. Reflect on your new year ahead.

These celebrations and honoring of deities make for a busy month! There are many reasons to celebrate time with friends and family. On the Full Moon, since it is close to Yule, focus on what you accomplished during the year and what you want to eliminate or welcome into your life.
It is also a time for quiet reflection and rest. Now you can turn to hobbies you enjoy and prepare your gardens for winter’s chill.
